Things To Do

From lying on beaches to more active past times, there are lots of things to do see and do here.

Beaches

Luz beach has a couple of water sports centres near the beach which offer everything from banana boat rides to para-gliding. Tuition and half and full day sessions are available. Diving and scuba diving and snorkelling are widely available.

Boat Trips

Boat trips and cruises are widely available from Lagos waterfront and Lagos Marina for coastal cruising, dolphin watching and to visit the enchanting sea caves and grottoes, and day trips with lunch are also available. Kayak and canoe hire is also available.

Outdoor Activities

There is a good horse-riding centre, Tiffany’s, between Luz and Burgau which has lovely countryside trekking trails for all enthusiasts, with tuition for beginners. Cycling and mountain biking are very popular and bicycle hire is widely available.

Walking

For walking enthusiasts, the coastal path is a great favourite. This rough pathway meanders along the coastal rocks and cliffs and stretches from Lagos to Ponta da Piedade, Porto do Mos, Luz, Burgau, Salema and beyond if you have the time.

Theme Parks

There are several water parks and theme parks in the Algarve, the most popular ones being:

Zoomarine in Guia is a marine park with seal and dolphin shows, aquarium and a sandy beach with slides and a wave pool.

KrazyWorld at Algoz, near Guia, is an interactive Zoo and petting farm with fun activities including mini quad bikes, bouncy castle, a mini 18-hole golf circuit, pony rides and a swimming pool with slide.

Karting Alamancil has mini karting for 3 – 6-year olds, junior karting for 7 – 12-year olds, 390cc karting for 13+, off-road buggies for adults with driving a licence, paintball for groups of 8.

Lagos Zoo at Barao St. Joao is a modest zoo with habitats for birds, mammals & reptiles and a Portuguese restaurant.

Golf

The closest Golf Courses to Lagos, Luz and Burgau are:

Espiche Golf which is 5 km from Praia da Luz. A charming, but very challenging course near Luz and Lagos, it has 18 holes, par 72. With picturesque lakes and streams and views of the Monchique mountains, this course is a valuable addition to the many golfing choices available locally. It was awarded the 2017 TripAdvisor Award of Excellence and has an impressive clubhouse and popular Gecko Restaurant.

Boa Vista Golf is 3 km from Praia da Luz. Designed by Howard Swan, Boa Vista sits well in its natural environment and has beautiful panoramic sea and countryside views. Sociable, with brilliant facilities, it has a well-stocked golf shop, excellent restaurant and Essential Fitness Centre and Spa.

Parque da Floresta/Santo Antonio Golf Resort is 9 km from Praia da Luz. Widely renowned and excellently placed on the hills and valleys just back from the coast, this is the most westerly 18 holes in the Algarve. Parque da Floresta also has restaurants, a golf shop, extensive health, beauty and spa facilities, archery, bowls and tennis.

Palmares/Onyra Golf links is 5 km from Lagos, 12 km from Praia da Luz, it enjoys spectacular views of Lagos Bay and combines links-style golf on seaside dunes with beautiful parkland, lakes and valleys. Upgraded in 2010, the new course was designed by Robert Trent Jones II and comprises 3 returning 9-hole loops that can be played in any sequence, each section having a different ambience and set of challenges.

Penina Golf Resort is 15 km from Praia da Luz. A widely renowned golf course and set in the rolling countryside between Lagos and Portimao, it was designed by Sir Henry Cotton and was the first 18-hole golf course in the Algarve. There are also two 9-hole course, and the Penina 5-star hotel has an exceptional level of services including a pro shop and equipment storage.
